White House Asks Kimberly Guilfoyle to Resign as Ambassador to Greece

Published • By Naeemofficial782

The White House has asked U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle to resign, according to an announcement made by new Press Secretary Katie Zacharia during her first press briefing on Tuesday.

“We have asked Ambassador Guilfoyle to resign, and we wish her well,” Zacharia said.

Mounting Allegations

The decision follows a series of reports from The Wall Street Journal detailing allegations of improper conduct by Guilfoyle before and during her tenure in Athens.

The most explosive allegation is that Guilfoyle asked a major Trump donor, Eric Deters, to pay off a $100,000 American Express bill shortly before her Senate confirmation hearing. According to text messages reviewed by the Journal, she urged him to wire the money directly to American Express, saying the transaction would not leave a paper trail, while offering to help him gain access to senior Trump administration officials. Deters reportedly did not make the payment.

Other reports allege she promoted the business interests of a Greek construction and energy company, allowed its lobbyist into private diplomatic meetings, accepted improper gifts and luxury travel, and made an alleged threat to a host country official.

Trump’s Response

President Donald Trump confirmed on Monday that his administration was considering removing Guilfoyle from her post. “Well, we’re looking at it,” Trump told reporters. “Yeah, we’re not happy”.

A senior U.S. official told The Associated Press that Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio were “extremely pissed off” by Guilfoyle’s reported conduct.

Denials and Investigations

Guilfoyle has denied wrongdoing through her lawyers. Attorneys David Schwartz and Jesse Binnall said the money she sought from the donor was payment for public appearances and speaking engagements that predated her nomination, and rejected allegations of impropriety related to her travel.

“Ambassador Guilfoyle has served, and will continue to serve, with integrity, honor and distinction,” the lawyers said.

The State Department’s Office of Inspector General is investigating the allegations, according to U.S. officials. Congressional Democrats, including Rep. Gregory Meeks and Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, have also called for an investigation.

Who Is Kimberly Guilfoyle?

Guilfoyle is a former California prosecutor and Fox News host who was engaged to Donald Trump Jr. for four years before their split in December 2024. She was previously married to California Governor Gavin Newsom from 2001 to 2006.

Trump nominated her to the diplomatic post in December 2024, praising her “extensive experience and leadership in law, media, and politics”.
